Here for the Boos | First College Halloween
Sam had approached Ruby with the idea of attending a Halloween party some of his friends from college were throwing weeks ago. She'd been apprehensive, but she could tell he really wanted her to go with him. Besides, they hadn't attended any parties together previously. She'd agreed and they'd tossed ideas for costumes back and forth. Eventually, they'd settled on Witch and Witcher. Ruby steps out of the bedroom dressed in a black corset, tight leather pants, and thigh high heeled boots. She tops it all off with a hooded black cloak (hood down). Her hair is down in soft curls, her lips are bright red, and her eyes are black.
"What do you think?" she asks, posing in the doorway. "Do I successfully pull off witch?"
"What do you think?" she asks, posing in the doorway. "Do I successfully pull off witch?"

He swallowed (rather than let himself drool) before he could give her an answer. "Uh... the cloak really brings it all together and I love that no one will question your eyes tonight." He closes the space between them with his unbroken in leather boots tapping every step of the way at the heel. "I'm a little bit afraid how many heads you'll turn tonight." But he said many times already that he thinks it will be fun. He's said that he thinks it'll be good for her too. Besides he wants her should feel welcome where his friends are. He touches her hair, feeling he needn't repeat those parts again. The two of them already have a deal to leave the party when Ruby says the word.
"Ready when you are." His hand stops playing with the bounce in her hair and extends out for her hand.

The speechlessness and the hard swallow are exactly the response she's looking for from Sam. "I like that too," she says about her eyes. Form fitting suits her better than some long dress that would have been more period-appropriate. Besides, witches are as prevalent now as they were then (perhaps more so); they just hide better. "I promise you I can scare most of the college boys away with a look," she teases him. "I'm all yours, Samuel." She toys with the lapel of his shirt. "Besides, I think you'll turn your own share of heads." And she's promised herself that they will stay as long as Sam wants to stay.
She takes his hand, slips a flask out of her pocket and thumbs the top off then takes a drink. It's filled with an alcohol that will actually get her a little tipsy. "Ready," she responds.
It's a short subway trip to the party. They get their share of looks, but they fit right in with the rest of the costumed people on the subway. A little girl in a more traditional witch hat tells Ruby that she likes her costume and Ruby responds that she likes her hat.
She takes another swig from the flask before they step inside the house with the party. Ruby keeps Sam's hand tight in hers. The music is loud and the party is already crowded with costumed college students.

The loan was reciprocated with a kiss when she had pulled out the items for him. He did raise his left brow at seeing her strap a real knife to her thigh but say nothing. He always had faith in her to believe that she had a reason for everything. He recalled how she once told him how she likes longer hair when he choose the costume. Hair seemed to be the status symbol of a Witcher and for how long it had grown in the last two years, the costume seemed a fitting complaint to that goal. Seeing Ruby's eyes light up was worth the effort.
If she wanted to, she could make him forget to breathe with just a look. The light conversation helps keep his head level. "It's one of your best features." He sighs happily. The truth is her eyes had a calming effect on him for as long as he remembered. Where other people might feel scared looking into their emptiness, he saw beauty and the faintest shine of stars in place of pupils. For once, Sam couldn't care about the accuracy of a thing either. Her costume was perfect the way it was. He flashes a grin. He can't lie that he likes it that she's all his. "Just remember what we talked about though-- be nice to people, if they're not being creeps," he reminds her. "Sorry, I didn't quite catch that." He did but it coincides with her playing with his shirt, which helps him get a little lost in her. He breath catches itself. "For the record, yours is the only head I want to turn. But let's promise to stay close the entire time. The only people I want you to meet are my new friends. I think you'll like them." The chances that they will stay for a few hours then will be likely. At the very least he won't want to leave until he feels tired or perhaps tipsy.
He watches her take the flask out of her pocket, quickly cluing into what it is. His oncoming smile flashes his teeth as he breathes out a laugh as if she's unbelievable but cute. "Perfect," he manages to respond without a hint of sarcasm. Honestly, he sees the effort she's putting into the relationship by coming along.
Sam had hoped no one would stare at them on the subway, but they do. He tries to remove their feeling of their eyes but focusing on Ruby and small talk. The interaction between Ruby and the little girl reminds him that one day he does want to marry Ruby and have children. He squeezes her hand when the girl leaves. "You're good with children," he lets the thought slip out.
Sam squeezes her hand again for assurance. They're greeted by some eyes and a boisterous frat boy acting as doorman hands them a beer. He takes the lead when they step into the house and make their way through as traffic allows until they reach the backyard. There's a large patch of green that overlooks an occupied pool.
He said he'd meet his friend there when they arrive. For the time being, it's still Ruby and him. The music is some weird mix of scat and techno. His eyes on her do most the talking. Care to dance? His other hand rests on her hip.

It's a party; everyone will be drinking. Ruby thinks it's only fair, and beneficial, for her to have something to drink as well. She is trying, but she also wants to be a part of Sam's life and these friends, this party, is part of Sam's life.
Focusing on her and making small talk is the best way to deal with people staring. "Only when the children are good and in small doses," she tells Sam. It's not entirely untrue. She was good with her children and she's good with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, but she has them in small doses. She isn't, not is she likely ever to be, one of those people that love all children. Marriage and children aren't something they've talked about yet. They are married, and they do have children. Ruby isn't opposed to doing it in this life again, but she wants him to give him a chance to remember before they do everything over again.
The frat house and boys are everything that Ruby had thought they would be. She'd seen a frat house many, many decades ago, but hadn't had any desire to stick around. Sam is her reason for sticking around now. She raises an eyebrow at Sam's silent invitation then nods a little. She's up for some dancing, but she's going to keep him close while dancing. She steps into him and starts moving with the music, her hands floating over his body then hers before tangling up in her own hair and repeating the pattern over again.

It's that softness in her smile that contributes to the beauty he's always found in her eyes. Never once in this lifetime had he felt threatened by black eyes (hers). "Not that I don't believe you, just promise me you won't have any hex bags on hand." Dating her for the last year has been eye opening but not in an unfavorable way; he's learned a lot more about her and himself by extension. "Good. Besides I know they will like you after they get to know you a bit. They already know you're my favorite person." He can't believe anyone else would not think she's great, only a little rough around the edges, after they get to know her. She needn't worry about him too much when tipsy. Other girls that stick to him will likely only hear about how he treasures his girlfriend. His tongue gets looser and he never stops talking about the things that make him happy. Ruby will hear about how beautiful she is, too.
It is a party; he hadn't fully considered the drinking part yet. If Ruby is cool with him having some beer, then of course he will partake in some. Though they don't need to be drunk to have fun with his friends, he appreciates everything she does. The next time beer is offered at the party, he accepts it. He considers his beer for a moment. Holding his cup up. "Keep this between us?" He'd rather his parents not know about his underage drinking. One time should be harmless enough, he considers.
It's nights like this where they're on a date that he forgets the number of reasons people have to stare at them; they're talked about all the time as the practically married couple on campus and/or how they're known wealthy figures too.
He would be more shy about attending a party if not for her; they both benefit from having each other. It takes a little courage to ask her to dance in front of all the people. He's glad he does though. His hands glide over her hips till they rest at her back. The closeness of her position to his body encourages him to grind against her lower half. He follows her sway and matches it with his own. He almost can't believe she's got rhythm but it's so attractive, hands up and down his chest, that his one of own squeezes her ass. The other matches her energy and plays with the back of her bodice. Lost in each other is a good place to be.

She has zero issues with him having a little bit of alcohol. He hadn't had a problem with it in his first life and she isn't worried he'll have one in this life. When he looks to her in clear askance about the beer, she nods so slightly that most people wouldn't see it. She doesn't want anyone to think that he needs 'permission' from her. She laughs softly, briefly and holds up three fingers "Scout's honor," she responds then leans in to whisper to him. "Samuel, there are far more things I don't tell your parents about you doing with me than I do." It's clearly flirting. She's taken a few more sips from her flask while they've been here just to make the crowd and the noise easier. Rest assured, she's still clocked all the exits and dismissed the boisterous, braggert next to the keg gesturing with his beer as a threat. He might act like a big man, but she bets he'd scare easily should he become a problem.
Without her flask, she might insist they find somewhere more private to dance, especially like this. She responds to his touch and his actions in kind, biting her bottom lip as she slides a hand over his hip and down to his ass before moving back to hover at his hip a moment. By the time the song ends, Ruby is overheated in more ways than one. She takes his hand. "Come on, let's get some air or I'm going to jump your bones right here in front of everyone." She's only half joking.

In his previous life, he was a happier drunk and able to moderate drinking; they is no reason to assume he wouldn't be in this life also with how boy scout he is. Her permission is encouraging. He takes a sip to test it out, first. The notes of fermented wheat and alcohol burn on the way down. He makes a small face but decides that one sip won't give him a fair assessment of it. It would probably get smoother the more he had. He feels a hot sensation in the pit of his stomach when she whispers close enough that her breath tickles his ear. He remembers to breath only after a moment. "That's... that's true. It's between us." Her flirting always makes his heart best a little faster.
Ruby is more attentive to the danger around them, for sure. On the hand, Sam has the obvious risks at the top of his mind (watching Ruby and his drinks) but the intention yo not that that ruin their fun.
The feeling like no one is watching them and everyone is at the same time grows on him. Her touch sets a trail ablaze across his skin. His skin is always warm to the touch. It is warmer the lower her hands go. He clears his throat with a happy vibration, getting closer than before. The music, the swaying-- it all leads to his lips touching hers.
His hands fold between her in compliance. "And go where?" He snorts. She isn't the only one hot in more ways than one. They could make their way to the edge of the party and still be crowded. He considers their surroundings. "Maybe my friends are around by now."

He doesn't have to be on guard because Ruby always is. She finds it difficult to really relax in public places or any place that she's not familiar with and hasn't fortified herself with magic and weapons. However, she's got no interest in ruining their fun either. She's determined to relax and at least participate in some of Sam's fun. With that in mind, she takes another sip from her flask.
They've probably drawn some attention, but more likely they've only inspired others to dance as well. Most people, Ruby has found, are too involved in their own lives to really pay much attention to anyone else. Ruby goes up on her tiptops slightly, leaning her weight against Sam as she deepens the kiss a little, her hands sliding to his shoulders then up the curve of his neck so she can tangle her fingers in his hair.
He has a point; it is crowded here and that crowd extends outside. She nods a little. "Let's look for them." And take a little breather in the interest of not giving the party goers a real show.

Her eyes on him and the alcohol do make his face feel hotter as the night goes on. The good thing is that it's hard not to have fun when he has her to smile at the whole night. Dancing close to each has his heart begin to pound. The attention they've drawn to them or not drawn ceases to matter. At some point, he opted to leave his half finished drink in the ether of the party which leaves his hands free to do as they want.
If anything, he wants to be her excuse to relax and not worry about monsters. He could never ask her to give up hunting but he can tell her nerves are raw in the worst ways when she comes home. Perhaps a part of him knows the party was an excuse to help her take her mind of it.
The moment her hands explore along the roots of his hair, his hands slide along her back. One hand holds her firmly so gravity can't pull them back. The other more affectionately below her ear. The sound he makes is to let her know how happy she makes him. There's a tingle down his jawline that wishes they could kiss and touch forever without concern for where there are, but a little nagging feeling at the back of his mind to know that it shouldn't move in the more favorable direction. Tearing himself from Ruby earns her an apologetic side smile. They can continue where they left off some other time tonight.
Absolutely, they should find his friends instead of becoming a main event. Evidence of their little session will unbeknownst to him still present itself in the lipstick that transfered to his lips. He takes her hand and gives it a little squeeze. Finding his friends isn't too hard for someone of his height. Once they move to a more secluded, he's able to spot them and wave them over. There's Ashton, his girlfriend, and Ethan. They ask how who the arm candy is with him and he introduces Ruby to his as the girlfriend he talked about before. Only Ethen looks half stunned being the only single one among them. Sam speaks highly of some of Ruby's accomplishments in business, explaining away why she isn't a student. Ashton confidently shares that its nice to put a fave to the girl Sam always talks about. The conversation quickly falls on the party. "So, how about this party? Half the university must be here," Ashton says.
Sam makes a note that their once open space has filled in with more people. "The music is good," he finds the one positive thing to say.

Those little sounds are part of what turns her on, particularly because she knows she's the only one in this place who can hear him over the music. It creates an intimacy in a crowded room. The pout on her lips when they break apart is subconscious; it's good they left the dance floor and put a little space between them, but she'll hold him to that silent promise later.
Ruby often wishes that it could always be just her and Sam, but she can't deny there's a certain amount of pride and a little bit of a thrill in hearing him introduce her as his girlfriend. She says all the right things like it's nice to meet you and I've heard so much about you. Ruby likes that Sam brings up her professional accomplishments and she extends an offer to stop by the spa in town sometime. She's grateful that the conversation quickly moves to the party before anyone can ask how long she's owned the business. "They're definitely breaking the fire code," Ruby says before she thinks. "But it's fine. I'm sure there won't be a fire tonight," she excuse quickly. "it's a good party."
And she's in agreement about the music. It might not be completely her taste, but it's good nonetheless. "The dance floor is good too."

The atmosphere will certainly test their chemistry and common sense tonight. More alcohol isn't needed to encourage him as far as he's concerned. The best thing he can do now is remain cognitive enough to enjoy the party. He's grateful that Ruby has made an effort to come out with him.
The music drowns out a lot but there are cues that she can hear him even so. Intimacy is never the trouble between them. Despite parting from her, he remains close enough to her so that he doesn't have to strain to hear her speak. If not for her presence, he would feel deaf to everything and everyone around him. His silent promise might only need a nudge when she's ready to take him up on it.
He talks about her and her accomplishments with his whole chest. They usually have most weekends to themselves anyway. He's glad he can show her off this once. There might be a little tint of red in his cheeks because everyone seems impressed with his Ruby. College parties are not for indepth discussions anyway. Even Sam has a warm, light buzz that makes him feel in more high spirits, less philosophical. "I think we'll be fine." Sam agrees with Ruby, though raises his hands and motions as if to collect everyone's attention or calm them down. "We have the option to jump in the pool if a fire does break out." He can't help but smile more towards Ruby than his friends. His friends both scoff with amusement as nothing either of them said is offensive. The one other girlfriend among them even adds, "A swim won't kill anyone of us," while winking at her boyfriend.
There's only so much any of the can talk about the party before the rhythm of a song seems like a good enough reason to break away from the group. Sam turns to Ruby again, his full attention on her. They could dance again to the something slower that was playing or play some beer bong. Sam asks her which she would like.
no subject
She's reasonably impressive though she doesn't often talk to people about what she does either for money or in an effort to knock a little more red out of her ledger. "We can't have that. I'd float and everyone would realize I'm a real witch," Ruby smirks. She's trusting that basic European history still teaches about the witch trials and burnings. Otherwise, that joke isn't going to land. "I'm joking, obviously, but I'd have to get rid of the leather pants first. They're vintage."
Since a slow song is on, Ruby opts for that one, pulling Sam onto the dance floor and wrapping herself around him. "You know, once this song wraps up, we would run that beer pong table. If you want to be a college party legend," she jokes. Thanks to centuries of hunting, Ruby has exceptional hand eye coordination.
no subject
It's all thanks her (and his upbringing) that he hasn't had to carry the weight of worry on his shoulders about how safe he is or isn't. He wouldn't want her to have carry him home though. If there were other functions they went to, he doesn't remember. One day he would like to. Those are precious memories. Though in his tipsy happy state right now, there should be plenty of new memories made with the compliments he could come up about her.
Its easy to tell Sam thinks the world of her when he speaks so openly about her. No one thinks he's bragging too much in any case. One day, they all will be successful people. He looks over at Ruby with a chuckle. He might have been interested in European history too much in High School that reference doesn't go over his head while buzzed. "Heh, I don't know about that. I'd pay the first person that figured it out a hundred bucks though." As far as his friends can tell it is the couple jesting with each other. The joke lands just fine with the alcohol in their systems; the girlfriend chuckle a second longer than the boys. Sam attention moves to the skin tight leather and back to Ruby's green eyes. "We'll get out of here before I let fire touch you." There was something a little more inappropriate on the tip of his tongue that he manages to avoid saying. Something about helping her with the vintage pants.
Sam lets himself be pulled on the dance floor, a step behind hers, and places his hands over her hips. He has to remember to take a breathe as so much of her steals away his ability to focus on anything else, much less any rhythm to the song. "Do you want to remembered as a college legend beside me? I did say I wanted the full college experience tonight though, didn't I?" That would be a yes. Playing against two other students would garuntee their win. If he played against Ruby though, he would definitely have more than his match in front of him. A few years of high school basketball translated to less than centuries of hunting. He chuckles with a bubble of excitement growing in the pit of his stomach.

To be sure, some of Sam's fascination with that era of history had something to do with Ruby. While she didn't share gritty details until Sam was older, she never hid what or who she was from him. She winks at him when he promises he'd get them out of there before he let fire touch her. "I've got no doubt," she responds. The inappropriate comment would have been met with one of her own and the flirting would have been taken to another level.
Fortunately for Sam, beer bong is a team event. She grins at his question. When the song ends, they walk over to the beer bong table and declare they want the winners. Of course, the two guys that won size them up, assuming the tall, lanky kid is the one they have to worry about and that the tiny blonde is a non-threat. They introduce themselves, fill the beers up, and the winners generously offer first turn to Sam and Ruby. Both Sam and Ruby toss a ball in a cup, forcing the guys to drink the contents before the guys get a turn to lob the balls, one at a time, into the cups on Sam and Ruby's side.

He would be touched to know that she thinks of him as hers no matter what he remembers. Likewise, it's never fault more right in his life to share his heart and a space with Ruby. It's as if it was meant to be.
Absolutely, Ruby is a big part the reason for his fascination. In fact, he couldn't escape a phase where he dabbled in (real) magic, much like his first go at life. In the very real possibility of a fire, he has no doubt that Ruby would be able to secure a way out for all of them (not just himself). Sam isn't sure what he would do other than assess the situation and help people first. There was only so many public places (ie none) where their flirting was allowed to get out of hand. The last thing he wanted was his new friends to think he (they) couldn't control himself (themselves).
The grin answers that question. Legends they will be. Sam doesn't have the same conflated opinion about himself as the two guys have. They agree with ease, asking if the little lady would like to reconsider. Sam injects with "She's the one you have to worry more about." He asks Ruby with a pointed look if she would like to do first. The ball lands in the cup at the tip of the row. Sam aims for the middle of the same offending student's second row. Thankfully, the taste of alcohol earlier prepares him to down his cup in two gulps. Both the burn and the buzz coat his gut. One drink isn't going to effect him yet through. The game is meant to get harder once there are fewer cups.
When there are 4 cups left on their side, one of the guys misses the cup groans. However, the other one dunks it into the cup. Sam drinks it. Upon her turn, he leans closer to Ruby to whisper into her ear. "I think you should put it into the annoyed one's cups. I think the other one will tap out after that." Of course the whispers put a frown on the one guy's face. The other looks ready to tip over. Sam's cheeks are a little red too.

Whether she likes the people at this party as a whole or not, she's long past the phase in her life where she'd abandon them. She'd bitch the whole time and snap at people, but she wouldn't abandon them to the fire, though her priority would be Sam (and always will be). His new friends can remain blissfully unaware of how close to losing control of themselves Sam and Ruby are at any minute.
The game will get harder for Sam, the more beers he has to drink. Unfortunately for the other team, it won't be for Ruby so she should be able to ensure the other team is the drunker one, at least for this round.
Sam's whispered suggestion gets a cat ate the canary grin out of Ruby. If the other team is watching, it's probably a little scary. With ease, she tosses the ball into one of the cups and smiles sweetly. The other team curses and chugs his beer, muttering something about cheating. "It's called hand-eye coordination, Shortbus. It's something you don't get wanking off in the bathroom."

Soulmates is at least one thing he can say he feels about the two of them already. Living with her since day one has been nothing short of easy. Every morning he wakes with bliss at being able to catch her laying next to him. One day, that only would be more amplified. How could he be upset with the way she nudged him out of a flustered, adolescent crush to the full-fledged romance there is now.
Little might she know part of what he loves about her is her unselfish nature in saving people and hunting things. He saw it for the first time in his life when she had helped him save other children and Gus from a monster preying on the young and the sick. Her impatience and snark for other people never bothered him. Sometimes it was refreshing. Soulmates are what they are in no uncertain terms.
It's true. At some point, Ruby will be playing for the both of them. The fun of getting tipsy lies in how much lighter he feels on his toes. Ruby also looks like an angel with his eyes already swimming a little bit even though their opponents might have a differing opinion. Scary is the new sexy. Sam doesn't step back right away when he finished whispering in her ear either. He leans in closer, in fact, taking a whiff of the scent that shakes from her golden lockes.
Eventually, he attention turns to the disgruntled opposing team member. Without really hearing Ruby, he adds "That was uncalled for" towards the accusation of cheating. What's more important is Ruby's honor. The one dude takes both comments as fighting words. "What was that?" The opposing man also lets out a hefty burp.
no subject
Ruby can't help but smile at slightly tipsy Sam. He's always been a happy, effusive drunk. She doesn't expect this time to be any different. When he lingers at her ear, she tilts her head to the side, giving him a moment more access to bury his nose against her neck. Their opponents could wait.
Ruby turns her attention back to the drunk when Sam moves away slightly. "Mmmm? Oh, my boyfriend was suggesting strategy then I followed through on the suggested strategy. I didn't realize it was that confusing," she smiles sweetly, innocently as she explained. She was not going to get into a fight with this guy at Sam's college party.
no subject
She's doing enough by being here with him.
His balance isn't all that great when tipsy either. He sways a little against her, and accidental or not, takes the little bit room against her neck to follow the scent of her bodywash. What is not accidental are his lips pressed against the base of her neck for a ghost of a second. He straightens up when a sound brings brings him back to reality. A scoff. The two they're playing against share their frustration. One mumbles under his breath if they can get back to the game.
Sam runs his hand over Ruby's shoulder as she examples. Part of it to massage her and a smaller part to maintain his own balance. The sound of her voice soothes him. She doesn't say anything he doesn't agree with, and he nods at her side. "Whatever," the other guy chimes. "Let's finish this." The man nudges his friend and head motions toward Sam. The best they could do is not go after Ruby but the boyfriend. On their turn, they toss the ball into one of Sam's cup. Sam drinks it and let's out a small burp behind his hand. The tension is palpable. Sam stick with his strategy and bounces a ball into another cup. It's clear at this point which teammates are the easiest to knock out. Sam's tolerance may be an inch from the floor, but he's having fun. There's a light in his eye.
no subject
She reaches out to touch Sam's bicep when he places his hand on her to give him more balance. "Nice job, Puppy," she tells Sam quietly when he sinks a ball into the opponent's cup. It's obvious by her grin that she's having fun as well though she's more on the slightly buzzed side than tipsy.
no subject
Sam cheers when the ball lands in the last cup. He scoops up her hand in his. His grin gives him away. "I think she deserves an apology from you two." He says loud enough for everyone to hear.
"What do you want to do next?" He asks Ruby.
no subject
The apology is given, half-heartedly, but given. Ruby smirks in response, but she's focused on Sam. She twines her fingers with Sam's when he takes her hand. "You're driving this car, Samuel. I'm just along for the ride. What do you want to do?"
no subject
Sam excitement for Ruby's scores transfers into the kiss the moment he is pulled into it. The only thing he hears is his heartbeat drum into his ears. He deepens the kiss as her reward.
The apology isn't great. Sam pushes his lip up in momentary displeasure, but doesn't anything. It is not worth the fight. When Ruby's finger curl into his, he smiles and turns back to her. He wanted her input, but he can't argue with her either (not ever). "I want what you want." But he puts on a thinking face. "I guess... if I am driving this boat, food would be good. I'm feeling like-" a pause as he clicks his tongue. "Tacos. Pizza. Maybe, both? Can you do that. Combine it into taco pizza."
Honestly, what he really wanted to tell her right then and there was I love you so much right now, but he held back to not be too much of a nerd. He couldn't hide how gooey he felt; he melted when she said his birth name. Blame the drunk craving for blocking his focus too.
no subject
It's a crap apology, but it's absolutely not worth the fight. Ruby would rather remain in this lovey dovey bubble with Sam. However, had Sam not been here, she probably would have opted to fight. His comment about wanting what she wants makes her smile. "Oh, you want you too?" she teases him. "Food probably would be good," she agrees. She still forgets about mealtimes and how often Sam needs to eat. "I think we can do whatever we want. Do you want to order pizza here or have it delivered to our place or take some of your friends out for taco pizza somewhere?"
Gooey is good. She likes gooey Sam. He generally makes her equally as gooey.
no subject
Sam smiles proudly at her. He's aware on some level that she chooses their bubble over a fight. But mostly he's proud to be her boyfriend. It takes him a second to understand her meaning. Meanwhile he gives her the briefest puzzled look before a look of realization dawns on him. "Funny. If we're being literal, I'm happy I'm me because I have you." He could still use the food to sober up but the question was sobering. It's not her responsibility to remember he needs to eat; it's his. "I think just the two of us is good. We could order it at home, or stop at a restaurant on the way." Even Ruby looks like a snack and that isn’t his stomach talking. One thing hes sure of is that he's ready to leave.
no subject
Ruby considers their options, leaning in to nibble at his ear and whisper "As much as I'd like to get you home right now, I think I like the idea of anticipation even more. Let me show you off a little while longer at the pizza place," she suggests.
no subject
Partially still puzzled but turned on, his lip tugs a little wider at one side. "Okay, let's go." He's enjoyed showing her off at the party just as much as she's enjoyed being with him again in public. Part of what he gets from the experience is no longer feeling that some people might think he's making her up. Perhaps some woman in his class won't make him feel uncomfortable with their curious stares anymore. If he's anybody's fresh meat, he's Ruby's.
Whether it's the teeth that tease his ear or Ruby's hot breath, his ear turns bright red and his veins feel a red hot rush and faintness run through them. "Um, you're speaking my language," he answers, turning his eyes down to her hands. He reaches for one of them, not going pushing through the crowd to go before he has any assurance they won't be split up.

She threads her fingers with his when he reaches for her hand and lets him lead the way through the crowd. Once they're outside, she snuggles up a little closer to him as they walk to the pizza place.

His eyes drop to see her fingers slio between his own while his smile grows exponentially. Outside, he takes a breath of fresh air free from the crowd. Ruby cuddling closer to him prompts his hand to wonder from her fingertips to her shoulder to hold her close. The pizza shop isn't far from where there are. He manages to only stumble or scuff his shoe between a cracked on the pavement a handful of times. Each time he smiles at Ruby to tell her he's fine.
When the restaurant is in their sights, he widens his last few steps to reach the front first. "After you!" He holds the door open.

"Such a gentleman," she says as she steps through the door to counter to order pizza. They happen to have a taco pizza available. She points it out on the menu to Sam. Once they're handed their number placard, Ruby finds a booth for them near the back and slides in against the wall.

(Tomorrow he would very much like to rest his head in her lap; that way if the world seems to spin endlessly, all he will see is his world spin around her.)
His teeth flash a white smile at her compliment and his whole chest puffs out. His eyes follow her as she walks by him. "It's the least I can do for my favorite lady." He follows after her, letting the door close behind him. He half leans gracelessly against her shoulder to follow what she points to. His eyes light up at the image displayed of taco pizza. "Yes, we found it together."
It seems like a good idea at the time to hold Ruby's hand and follow her. The only snag with that is he refuses to let go right away as she slides into the booth and he's caught in a little snag, pulled forward. He manages to sit without further incident next to her. As they wait for the waiter to come, he inhales and exhales rather deeply, watching her. "This is so so so much better just the two of us. But you met my friends tonight and I can tell they like you. You are the greatest girlfriend ever."

She never minds helping hold him up. Her arm slides around his waist as he stands with her. The bit of clumsiness gets a smirk out of her, but once they settle in the booth, she scoots close. "it's much quieter when it's just us," she agrees. She tries very hard not to isolate Sam from his friends just because she doesn't like crowds. His compliment gets a small, genuine smile from her. "They seemed nice. We can invite them to the penthouse sometime if you like. We just need to give their names to the doorman." She flutters her eyelashes and looks smug. "I do try."

It's the little things as well as the big that he finds attractive about her. The strength under her short stature is the first thing that makes him take a deep breath and think about how much he loves her. "You're strong," he points out. He doesn't shy away from her closeness in the booth and snakes his arm around her waist, making sure their hips touch. "Quiet and cozy."
He's well aware that Ruby is a private person. But he smiles exuberantly at her permission to invite his friends, nudging her arm with the roll of his shoulder. "Once you get to know them, they'll be your friends too. I promise."
The second she bats her eyelashes at him, he's forgot about her friends. Though he'll still hold her to her words later. "Never ever I ever...thought you were more beautiful than tonight."
