Be Mine | S4 Valentines Day
Ruby and Sam haven't been a secret for months now (something Ruby was very grateful for and wasn't sure would ever happen) but, they also haven't really gone on a date in months for a lot of reasons. She's seen Sam; they've even spent the night together, but they haven't been on a date since before they 'came out' to Dean. She was reaching peak frustration and trying to figure out what to do about it (besides be bitchy until Sam figured it out) when Sam asked her out to dinner and to go away for a few days in honor of their first Valentine's Day together.
Ruby isn't sure what Valentine's Day entails, but she's watched a lot of rom coms. With that in mind, she's wearing a dress, a pair of red high heels, and red lace lingerie beneath the dress. The restaurant Sam had given her the address for was nice enough to require a reservation, but not so nice that it made her uncomfortable. She stays in her car watching for the Impala to pull up. Once she sees Sam get out, she gets out of the car and makes her way toward him. Her hair is long and loose around her shoulders and she's put on red lipstick to match the outfit.

Beyond that, Sam isn't sure what to expect of a Valentine's date with a demon like Ruby either. He never asked her about what she knows to be cautious, but part of him expects Ruby has no experience with February 14th being celebrated for love. He did his best to assure her it has nothing to do with any of that. Only that they should try to have a nice evening together and see where it leads. He decides black jeans and a white button up shirt with flowery embroidery up both the sleeves is casual but imposing enough to get the point across.
The Impala can be heard driving away when he first turns and sees Ruby in her red dress. This is the first time for him as much it is the first time for her wearing one. Stunning is only one of the first words that come to his mind first. "Wow... uh, you look good." All he sees is red when his eyes travel down and then back up to her gaze. He hands her the flowers before he says anything else potentially incoherent. "These are for you. Glad you made in alright." A sign he's been worried about her since November.
Before they go into the restaurant, he reminds her that he brought the camping gear. It only takes him a second to through it in the backseat of her unlocked car.

She's got far more experience with Valentine's being a massacre than a romantic celebration, but she's certain she far prefers the romance. Sam is her first Valentine. Rather than approach the Impala or Sam, she takes a moment to appreciate that Valentine as he walks toward her and the car.
His compliment makes her smile broadly and she swivels her hips, setting the skirt to swishing a little. "I suppose I can accept good," she jokes. "You, Samuel, look very hot," she compliments him as she takes the flowers, dipping her head to smell the roses. "You called. I came. That's our deal, isn't it?" She pauses, fiddling with the flowers a moment. "You're the first person to ever get me flowers," she tells him. He doesn't remember it, or even know it yet, but he gave her a handful of dandelions when he was eight. She was possessing the body of an older lady who owned the short-term rental they were staying in. She likes these better because now he knows who and what she is.
She pops the trunk on the car and puts the flowers inside in one of the cup holders, she licks her fingers, slides them over a rose petal and whispers a quick spell to keep the flowers fresh then locks the car up when Sam has everything stored. "I'm glad you asked me out tonight." No matter what the night or the weekend holds, she's glad to have been asked.

Letting it be and develop sounds like the most solid plan. Of course Sam likes that she agreed to be his Valentine and is with him now. He spends another moment or so stuck on the fact it's the first time he's seen her in a dress and that she looks good in it. He chuckles a second later when he snaps back to reality, feeling a bead of sweat behind him in his subconscious. "Yeah, I'm out practice. You... look stunning." He hands over the roses and he watches her dip to smell them with his awkward smile becoming soft again. There's a little twitch at the corner of his mouth when she calls him hot. He's not had that for a long time and honestly, coming from Ruby, it feels good to hear it with where they were now in a relationship.
There's a phantom itch above his brow that he wishes he could scratch but he ignores it. Her comment about their deal brings his eyes to flicker to the side and back to her, wondering how to continue the date without the awkwardness. "Perhaps we agree that we both make the terms and conditions of our dating." At least that way it won't sound so much like he gave her no choice in the matter. They can also come to another agreement about their deal in working together now too.
"I'm glad you like them," he nods. If only he knew she was the one that gave him flowers when he was eight. He does know a little bit of her involvement in his life at a young and that doesn't bother him so much anymore. The lady with the dandelions had gotten them from him as a thank you for inviting him in and playing board games with him sometimes. These were times when Dean would sometimes hunt with John or be out hustling money that he was by himself. He remembers only that the old lady kept him from feeling alone in the rental by himself. He hadn't had feelings for her then as he does now so hopefully the roses are more special.
Magic isn't all twisted and evil in his experience. He's met white witches on the job. Watching Ruby perform the quick spell over the roses catches his attention but in that split second all he can think or feel is the confirmation that the red flowers mean something to her as much as they do him. "Me too... I mean, I'm glad you said yes." They walk to the restaurant side by side and he holds the door open for her to pass through first. He stands behind her as they stand in line to be seated. The place he decided to take her welcomes them with the smells of many food in an open buffet. He thought it would be easiest for them to have a little bit of everything rather than a limited selection. The sign upfront clearly marks out a Valentine's Day special pricing. Of course he looked up the reviews to the place and found that most customers were not disappointed. His eyes turned down to Ruby, standing only a few inches below him in her heels. "I reserved us a table outside with a space heater. I assumed it would be less noisy." He watches her reaction to see if he jumped the gun or not with that booking, knowing full well that their usual spot is a back table where the noise feels less invasive.

Her brow furrows just a bit. She didn't mean it that way; she meant it to be sassy and flirty. She's well aware that this isn't work and if she didn't want to be here, she wouldn't be here. She doesn't know how to fix that without making this more awkward so she smirks at him and nods. "Deal. We can lay those out later." She pauses. "Obviously, we'll negotiate more sex." That'll make it less awkward, right?
She was watching him because she had to, but she was being friendly because she wanted to. One of these days he'll find the roses pressed into one of her books so that she could keep them with her.
A lot of the magic Ruby uses is just practical, like the spell she keeps on her hair to keep it perfect or the magic she puts into her shampoo. She's capable of twisted and evil and wouldn't hesitate to use it in the right circumstances, but her every day magic is practical and involves nothing darker than a drop of her blood or a bit of her spit. The restaurant isn't a 24 hour diner so already her expectations are exceeded. The thoughtfulness in choosing a spot that's quieter isn't lost on her and this is far more romantic than a back booth. It makes her smile softly. "This is perfect, Samuel." There's no sarcasm or sass to her words; she's simply grateful.

Before things can become awkward again waiting in the queue... he brushes her hand with his to encourage her to splay her fingers open so he can thread his fingers between them. "We have a chance to talk about whatever you like over dinner," he agrees to her earlier comment about more sex (and romance.) A 24 hour diner is the last place he'd want to be, much less take her out to eat on a romantic date. It took him more time than he would have liked to choose the buffet. It was important to him that Ruby could enjoy it as much as he did. He knew very well that she needn't eat much and was thus selective. He knew food for her was to bring joy.
Before he can respond, the host interrupts them to ask them if they have a reservation or will be waiting. Sam gives his lastname for the host to locate it on the page and take them to it with a hurried pace. Once the man gives the spiel about how the buffet works, Sam says what he was going to say once they're seated at their table. "Yeah. I was hoping you woukd say something like that. The reviews for this buffet are...stellar." He isn't exaggerating. He takes a breath with a smile, standing back up. "Should we go get some food now?" He hands her the first plate he takes off the stack.
"I asked you out... you go first." He backsteps to allow Ruby by him and consider her food first.

At the cue, Ruby entwines her fingers with Sam's, a soft smile curving her lips. He's learned quickly about her eating habits. Honestly, most of the 'human' things she does are for joy, like her bubble baths.
That soft smile grows a bit when Ruby realizes that Sam had made a reservation. He'd put thought into this, and that's more important than any other part of this date. Ruby takes the plate from him and peruses the buffet critically. She takes a small amount of several things, asking Sam's input on a couple of them, clearly open to suggestions. She watches what Sam puts on his plate, often not selecting the same things. Sorry, Sam, she's got every intention of stealing from his plate as well. Her plate, once full, will contain a few bites of more than half the things on the buffet. "We have to come back for dessert," she comments as they walk past that section of the buffet back to their table.

At the corner of his eye, the smile he sees on her face makes him good about the date. It confirms that the buffet was the best choice. Sam releases the first plate to Ruby, and with the next plate in hand, he opts for filling it up with food items he hasn't seen or had in the last many weeks. The stuffed mushroom caps particularly look good. He takes his time filling up every inch of his plate with smaller portions, accounting for what Ruby might steal, so he might try a little of everything. Ruby watching him is only might with him watching her. The two of them can be described as slow, but almost flirting with each other by catching the other's eyes. He's guilty of it as much as she is. It seems their plate reflect every possible option opposite to each other. His one suggestion to her falls closer to the potato section midway through the buffet choices where the label reads: Halloumi Fries. His blue-green eyes turn to her, locked in as he fills her in on the cheese fries.
He agrees to come back for dessert. Back at the table, he places his plate down so he can pull the chair for Ruby. Before he scoots in to sit across from her, he glances down at what is missing from the table. "Do you need me to grab a small plate for ketchup?" He remembers her preference to dip her fries all the other times they've dined together.

Oh the glances are definitely flirtatious. Ruby isn't even trying to hide it. Half her plate is likely the potato bar. She takes his suggestion about the cheese fries to heart. "Fried cheese? Samuel, are you trying to get in my good graces?" she flirts with him.
She glances at the end of the table where the salt and pepper are, then nods. "I guess not having ketchup on the table really does mean it's a nicer restaurant."
