Soulless Situationship

"Shit," Ruby exclaims when she wakes up to an empty room in the middle of the night. She rakes her hand through her hair as she sits up and orients herself. She checks the bathroom, knowing that Souless isn't there. She shoots Dean a text so that he won't wake up in his own room not knowing what's going on. It doesn't take her long to get dressed. She does a location spell to find Sam (she insists she always have some of his hair so she can find him) and is surprised to find he's only a few rooms down. A sinking feeling in her stomach tells her what she's going to find. By the time she's emotionally prepared herself, Sam is ducking out of the room still buttoning up his shirt. Ruby stalks toward him, heels clicking on the sidewalk. "Do you want to go back to the room or am I going to have to drag you and right about now, I really hope you'll say drag you."

She knows that Soulless isn't Sam and she knows that he can't love her the way that Sam does. However, she had thought that they'd come to an understanding. She'd become comfortable enough in their situationship that she'd actually taken a nap she'd really needed without handcuffing him to something. She won't let that happen again. he has to constantly remind herself that she can't trust him; he isn't emotionally involved, and he doesn't care about her. He's not Sam. And he never will be.

The annoying nay difficult thing about being aware that his body did not contain a soul was still being reduced to certain physical urges. Ruby was most certainly a sleep when he stirred from his side of the bed. Of course he gave her a chance to respond. A well-timed minute. His patience or there lack of seeing the need to wait was short. It was easy to find someone agreeable to needs. Seedy motels were never short of women lurking around the parking lot. In his defense, he didn't acknowledge the first couple to try and sway him. Who ended up finally turning his eye to them was a blonde women no more than her mid twenties that intentionally lead him with her eyes to the bar across the street. Already he knew she was not women so desperate to line her pocket with cash. One with a certain cat ate canary look similar to a demon he knew. He felt a familiar game of cat and mouse that drew him in but it occurred to him the only way she might talk to him is if she approached first. So he ordered a drink to be passed over to her. The natural course of the conversation that followed lead to booking a room for the one hour rate.

The end of the conversation was equally as mutual. He hadn't any reason not to return to his room when Ruby found him. The feeling of being watched was more than enough to cause him to drop what he was doing. The last couple of buttons undone on his shirt meant very little. The breeze from the darkness of the night didn't chill him the way it would a regular person. Similar to how unbothered he was her her threat. For a second he tried to understand why she acted in part hostile but he wasn't coming up with anything. "Don't get your panties in a bunch." His lips thin into a line, knowing what he said was factually incorrect. "I am headed back right now."

He pauses, having never stopped trying to read the situation. "What? Did you think I skipped town?"

Far as he was concerned, the only ground rule that made sense is to stay in town. But as he goes over what he's done to cause her reaction, another ground rule starts to surface; it tie into what he knows of people forming attachments. It was his understanding that it was just an occasional arrangement rather than exclusivity. He can see now maybe that wasn't the case. If not that, it was about listening to her. He agreed only to that as long as it beneficial to him. Getting his soul back was the goal, right?

His look when she informs him how easy it would be to locate him if he skipped town is akin to annoyance. He did not like how she came into possession of his hair. Not that it hurt. Quickly, his expression returns to neutrality. "This is about having sex with somebody else? I don't know what you want me to say. It meant nothing with her." That's supposed to console her.

He neither follows her nor walks beside her. The way back to their shared room is obvious so he's a few steps a head of her naturally. (What a gentlemen. NOT.) She has the key so he waits before he steps in with her allowing him to go first. He goes into the washroom to clean up first before stepping out of it a short while later. His shirt all but abandoned. Maybe he thought somewhere that it was a start on making it up to her. What happened next was up to her.

The shower certainly helped to revitalize how his skin felt to the touch. Clean with a mild soap scent. He continues to the single queen mattress and sit to towel off his hair. He's listening.

But he's also heard similar a complaint before. If he could sigh, he would. The urge to roll his eyes is almost too great. Yet a trickle of a thought stops him. What Ruby says about his actions and what it means to her begs him to consider that. This might be the first time it truly clicks into place that it isn't just his soul that Ruby cares about.

"Me... or just the Sam you claim isnt here?" He uncharacteristically finds himself unable to hold in. He motions his hand to signal she has the floor. "Please. Don't hold anything back. I'll get tested."

He had thought maybe his shirtlessness would elicit a change of mind from Ruby. His expectations shifted as she contined to shed light on the situation. Never in a million years could he have known anything she felt without it so clearly spelled out. He could respect her vulnerability, if not for the selfish part where he comes to know she cares for him.

Justifiably, he takes a moment to respond. He's more focused on how not to incur her wraith. It sounded uncomfortable what she threatened to do if he messed up again.

"Yes. So, what do you propose we do? After the test, do I just sleep with you? Is this a exclusivity thing?"

He's not sure what it is himself. Part of it is certainly an act to keep on his part to keep Ruby and the discomfort at bay. The other part of it has no name he can even describe. At least in terms of what this is. As for the rest, he considers the deal with remote interest. Clearly, he can't deny his resistance to being controlled but the proposal is pretty clear. There's nothing unfamiliar about it. If anything, it's just as easy. (Sorry, Ruby.)

He looks at her silently for a minute. "Fine. Let me sleep on it." He won't give her the satisfaction of a yes right away even if it is one. "If you have any other rules to add, don't think I'll go along with them easily. You're... way too concerned with me." He points at her as if to accuse her with a crime and not just some mild annoyance.

She was an easy lay at the time, but something had always been there. Perhaps it was best that someone actually cared how many women he lied with.

He tilts his head, in a way suggesting that she proceed. He wouldn't tolerate her continued addition of rules either. "Lay them on me. Just don't expect me to agree to all them." Some compromise will need to be made. He looks her up and down as if about to say something but chooses not to. He rather liked the cute way her eyes rolled.

That hesitation, however brief, is the most telling thing he can lock on to about how unprepared she is. That's one way to look at it. It's not so much that he agrees right away but he's aware that she can be a nuisance - not just to his activities but to his own ability to stop her from being in his mind - if there is no discussion. Perhaps the two of them need a moment to be allowed to think. Of course he's well aware that more conditions wouldn't do him any favors.

His look remains neutral, essentially as good as a frown at her suggestions thus far. "That's all?" He repeats back to her, a calculation to lock her in to those terms. He still hasn't made the conscious decision to agree or not agree.

So far the terms are: exclusive sex, informing her about his whereabouts and killing regular people less. His forehead gives away that he is thinking and perhaps a little urked. But his belief that there is breathing room in the lack of push to have to be in her company all the time that gives him a sense of relief. "You let me continue to hunt without your presence whenever or where ever you're not wanted." Some places like Samuel's storehouse have wards against demons. It's very well known that Samuel doesn't want to work with hunters that are not family, too. Ruby is only safe as long as she doesn't let on to what she really is. Though he can't explain in certain terms that the phantom butterflies in the pit of his stomach encompass the worry that Ruby might be found out.

His own memories and assumptions do likely cause him to underestimate her. She most definitely comes across as more human than she did than when they first met. Other times not. He is acutely aware of the discomfort she can cause after shes shown him what the consequences are. Never has he seen her have to use more force than necessary outside of those consequences of his or the hunts they've been on in memory.

He motions for her to continue if there is more. "Well, the floor is yours." So far there isn't really any push back because she's listed the ones he's sure are non negotiable. It is not an instructional lecture but neither is it one to leave anything out. Part of the exception he had aimed had been a little bit of his own ability work alone but her words make it clear that is another non negotiable. Still, he didn't blink or bat an eyelash. "And how long might it take to earn your trust if I follow these conditions? Let's say when I'm working with the Campbells then." He'd just work with them more if he wanted the space. Ruby could watch from afar all she liked. This version wouldn't care too much if Samuel or Ruby came to a head (that's a lie) but it would certainly hinder his desire to hunt. The Campbell family had lifetimes of intel than he could find on his own.
