Ruby had found the night hag before it'd done too much damage. She hadn't even been surprised to see the creature. It was the right time of year for it with Halloween just behind them. It'd gone very well and it had been interesting enough (not to mention a little nostalgic considering the night hag was a Polish fairytale), but she'd ended up with a shoulder out of the socket. She'd tried to pop it back in without much luck and a great deal of pain. After a moment's consideration, she called Sam from the SUV.
"Any chance you can meet me at my apartment? I could use a hand with something." It's not just an excuse to see him.
The apartment was a relatively new development. As Sam had gotten older, he'd wanted Ruby around more (which was a good thing as far as she was concerned) and she'd wanted to be around more for things like his basketball games. Her house in Sioux Falls was a few hours away from where Sam lived and it wasn't a place she could take him. Not yet anyway. The apartment was neutral ground, filled only with memories and pictures from this life and these years. As soon as Sam had gotten a car, Ruby had given Sam a key. He had a bedroom there for nights spent over there and she'd made certain he knew he was welcome anytime whether she was there or not. She was gone quite a bit hunting but always returned every few days at least. She'd been gone for nearly a week this time.
When she arrives, Sam's car is already there. She gets out of her SUV, her injured arm hanging awkwardly at one side.
