Ruby and Sam haven't been a secret for months now (something Ruby was very grateful for and wasn't sure would ever happen) but, they also haven't really gone on a date in months for a lot of reasons. She's seen Sam; they've even spent the night together, but they haven't been on a date since before they 'came out' to Dean. She was reaching peak frustration and trying to figure out what to do about it (besides be bitchy until Sam figured it out) when Sam asked her out to dinner and to go away for a few days in honor of their first Valentine's Day together.

Ruby isn't sure what Valentine's Day entails, but she's watched a lot of rom coms. With that in mind, she's wearing a dress, a pair of red high heels, and red lace lingerie beneath the dress. The restaurant Sam had given her the address for was nice enough to require a reservation, but not so nice that it made her uncomfortable. She stays in her car watching for the Impala to pull up. Once she sees Sam get out, she gets out of the car and makes her way toward him. Her hair is long and loose around her shoulders and she's put on red lipstick to match the outfit.

Gieruchna couldn't rule out that her parents knew about Samuel, but whether they did or not, she was certain they didn't approve. Her final clue had been when her father had mentioned the arranged marriage to Herbort, a man three times her age who'd been a widower twice and had children older than her. He was one of the wealthiest men in their village and she would be taken care of, which was probably what her father had been thinking about. He wasn't an unkind man, so Ruby should have felt bad when he 'suddenly fell ill' with gastrointestinal issues. He'd tried everything in the apothecary to no avail. All of his cows had started giving sour milk and most of his crops had failed. Unfortunately, that had only delayed the appointed marriage (and Ruchna didn't feel bad).

At least it had given her more time to sneak around with Samuel and try to convince her family that she didn't need to marry anyone (marrying a witch hunter was out of the question since she was an actual witch and had made the deal to save her little sister from the Black Plague last year).

She couldn't be certain who had first raised the witch allegations, but Herbort or one of his children were high on her list. They'd dragged her from her bed in the middle of the night and thrown her in a makeshift cage in the center of the village square to await her trial and punishment. Samuel's father had led the charge. Ruchna couldn't even protest because she was the reason Herbort, his cattle, and his crops had fallen ill, but she was also the reason not a single person in the village had died from the Black Plague (it hadn't been her goal, but she hadn't known her own power). Rather than scream her innocence, she'd tilted her chin up and remained silent. She'd maintained that silence when they threw her in the cage and poked at her with sticks.

Ruby has gotten accustomed to sleeping, especially in the early house of the morning. She tends to go to bed with Sam, but she spends most of her night doing something like reading or knitting or crafting hex bags, potions, and other magical things. Sometimes she'll make soap or shampoo. She always crawls back in bed with Sam sometime in the early (or very late) hours of the day to snuggle up with him and fall asleep so that she can wake up with him. It's a little ritual they both enjoy. Many mornings, Sam will wake up first, but this is a rare occasion when Ruby is up first. Sam is snuggled up, his back against her. Ruby nestles her nose in Sam's hair, taking a deep breath. Something tickles at the back of her mind- his scent is a little different- but she doesn't think much about it. Instead, she reaches up to run her fingers through his hair then starts trailing her hand over his shoulder. That's where she freezes for a second then scoots back, sitting up to get a good look at exactly who is in her bed because it's not Sam; those shoulders are way too feminine.

Ruby grabs her knife from the nightstand, moves quickly before the person in the bed wakes up so that she can straddle her, one knee on each side of the hips, knife held to the woman's throat.

"What did you do with Sam?" she growls, eyes black as pitch.

Ruby's life now is split into before and after having sex with Sam Winchester. Before, she kept her distance, but was close. After, she's having a hard time keeping her distance. She's still a couple of motels down the street, always just out of sight. She still does her job and researches how the fuck she's going to dig Dean Winchester out of Hell. She recruits and she talks and she makes promises that Sam Winchester is the boy king. She does most of that within a few hours driving distance of said boy king.

When he calls, she's just gotten back from a hopeful recruitment that only went so so. She's lying diagonally across her bed, head hanging down when she answers "Ruby's Rail Shop. You spread them. We rail them." Honestly, she's surprised she can talk at all with the monster bats fluttering in her belly once she sees his name on the screen.

No Proof, One Touch. But you felt enough

Ruby has seen Sam several times since she revealed that she was a demon to him. While he'd had lots of questions and doubts, he'd also kept coming back to talk to her; he'd kept flirting with her. Ruby was beginning to think that this partnership wasn't going to crash and burn. She'd just gotten out of the bathtub and put on the shirt she'd stolen from Sam in Las Vegas when she got Sam's text asking if he could stop by her room. She responded with her room number. She's gotten in the habit of just staying in whatever motel the boys stay in, despite the fact that she prefers a nicer room than they usually choose.

Once the text is sent, Ruby grabs her jeans from the floor and puts them on, barely getting them buttoned before there's a knock on the door. A wicked smile snakes across her lips as she opens it. "Hello, Puppy. Is that a banana in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"

Sam had approached Ruby with the idea of attending a Halloween party some of his friends from college were throwing weeks ago. She'd been apprehensive, but she could tell he really wanted her to go with him. Besides, they hadn't attended any parties together previously. She'd agreed and they'd tossed ideas for costumes back and forth. Eventually, they'd settled on Witch and Witcher. Ruby steps out of the bedroom dressed in a black corset, tight leather pants, and thigh high heeled boots. She tops it all off with a hooded black cloak (hood down). Her hair is down in soft curls, her lips are bright red, and her eyes are black.

"What do you think?" she asks, posing in the doorway. "Do I successfully pull off witch?"

Alek and Zuzu handle most of the business meetings and decisions, but about once a year, Ruby has to visit some of the businesses that work with the rage spas or she has to visit some of the major spas herself (she and Sam tend to visit the smaller ones when they want a spa weekend or day). It's that time of year and Ruby hasn't been to New York City in a while. It's a bonus that DJ lives there now and she wants to check in with him. The meetings take most of the morning on into the afternoon so by the time Ruby shows up at the penthouse, it's late afternoon. She knocks on the front door to be polite (though she's still got a key). When DJ answers, she wraps him up in a big hug. "Hey, Kiddo," she greets him when he lets her go and reaches up to ruffle his hair. "How's it going?"

Ruby knew it was a bad idea, but Sam wanted to see her. They'd spent a couple of weeks talking via Facetime, text, and telephone; it wasn't enough for either of them, but Gadreel had warned Ruby about staying away from Sam. They were both fed up with the distance; Ruby was close to the bunker (she was never as far as she pretended to be) and she needed to restock her spell bag. The bunker was the best place to do that. If Gadreel was really that opposed to seeing her, he could go have a nice, deep sleep.

Ruby parked in the garage and used her key to get into the bunker. "I'm back," she yells out. "Surprise." Because she figured it was best to take Gadreel by surprise rather than let Sam know she was going to be there.

Ruby had forgotten that she could hurt like this. It's been decades since she'd been injured this badly. Sam had made a quick bed out of the blankets and pillows that Ruby kept in her SUV for nights stargazing with Sam or she slept in the back rather than get a hotel room on quick hunts. Once that had been done, he'd moved her to stitch her up in the comparatively clean environment of the SUV. That done, he'd insisted they both get some rest, stating that she didn't need to be moved or jostled for a little while in order to give her body a little time to heal. He'd pulled a blanket over the both of them and curled up with her. Just to give you body heat he'd said. Ruby had joked that they could create a little more heat if he wanted, but they both knew from the weakness in her voice that she wasn't feeling up to anything more than talking.

"Talk to me," Ruby finally whispers after a few moments of silence. "I promise I'll try to sleep if you do."

"Shit," Ruby exclaims when she wakes up to an empty room in the middle of the night. She rakes her hand through her hair as she sits up and orients herself. She checks the bathroom, knowing that Souless isn't there. She shoots Dean a text so that he won't wake up in his own room not knowing what's going on. It doesn't take her long to get dressed. She does a location spell to find Sam (she insists she always have some of his hair so she can find him) and is surprised to find he's only a few rooms down. A sinking feeling in her stomach tells her what she's going to find. By the time she's emotionally prepared herself, Sam is ducking out of the room still buttoning up his shirt. Ruby stalks toward him, heels clicking on the sidewalk. "Do you want to go back to the room or am I going to have to drag you and right about now, I really hope you'll say drag you."

She knows that Soulless isn't Sam and she knows that he can't love her the way that Sam does. However, she had thought that they'd come to an understanding. She'd become comfortable enough in their situationship that she'd actually taken a nap she'd really needed without handcuffing him to something. She won't let that happen again. he has to constantly remind herself that she can't trust him; he isn't emotionally involved, and he doesn't care about her. He's not Sam. And he never will be.

Ruby had been at the basketball game; she'd seen the injury happen and had known as soon as Sam had hit the ground that something was wrong. The team doctor had wrapped the knee, iced it, and sent him home. At a doctor's appointment the next morning, he'd confirmed Sam had a torn ACL. The surgery had been scheduled for days later. Ruby had spent a great deal of that time at Theo and Melissa's, but the pain pills the doctor had given him had knocked him out so he'd slept through most of it. They'd all gone to sit in the waiting room while the surgery was done. The doctor had promised he'd go home that evening as soon as the anesthesia had worn off, but until then, they took turns in the post-op room with Sam.

Once Melissa had slipped out and back into the waiting room, Ruby went to check on Sam. The room was really just one large room with curtain dividers. "Knock knock," Ruby said as she pushed aside one of the curtains and stepped up beside Sam's bed. "How're you feeling, Puppy?" she asks, sitting on the chair next to the bed.

The night before had been chaos. Ruby and Sam had gone up to the Roadhouse with Dean to socialize with some hunters in town. Dean has disappeared with Jo and one of the hunters no one knew very well had started flirting with Ruby. She'd responded in typical Ruby fashion, which seemed to only make the hunter more angry and more determined to prove something to Ruby (though she wasn't sure what). She had promised Sam that she wouldn't hit anyone that morning, but he'd made no such promise to her.

It had escalated to a bar fight. Everyone had been thrown out (though Ruby and Sam's ban was only for that night), which had suited Ruby just fine. There was something incredibly sexy about Sam being jealous and possessive.

Ruby lies next to Sam propped on one elbow. After a moment, she reaches out to lightly glide her fingertips along the bruise coloring Sam's cheekbone. When he opens his eyes, he'll find her grinning lazily.

"Morning, Slugger." That lazy grin turns a bit wicked as she watches him wake up.

It wasn't that Ruby wanted to leave this version of Sam, but she needed to get back to herversion of Sam for all of them. It was a theory, but she was pretty sure if she could get back to her version of Sam, it would dramatically change this Sam's life. In some ways, those changes would be better (they would still be together). In others...she couldn't guarantee that his son would ever exist since he wouldn't have slept with DJ's mother if Ruby were there. That being said, Ruby was in the wrong timeline. They both knew it. It had taken Sam several sleepless nights to make the decision (and in some ways it had to be his decision) but two mornings ago he'd come to her and told her he would drive her to the bunker. He'd made arrangements with Melissa for DJ to stay with her for a few days. DJ definitely thought that Sam was just skipping out with his 19 year old 'friend'for a few days. Ruby was pretty sure Sam didn't like that, but it was better than trying to explain the situation to a teenager who didn't have a clue demons, witches, or time travel existed.

The drive to Lawrence had been filled with a lot of hopeful conversation as well as some comfortable silence. There'd been a stop right outside of Lawrence where they could still see the stars bright overhead. They'd danced by the side of the road then laid on the hood of the car holding each other for a little while. Neither of them had voiced it, but they both knew that it was 'just in case' Ruby wasn't a part of his whole life. Without discussing it, they'd climbed back into the car and finished the drive. They'd had breakfast at a diner in Lawerence then gone to the bunker. Ruby had unlocked it with her key. There was a note saying that everyone was on a hunt, but had given a number to call if needed. Ruby had gone straight to the work room she'd once used to put together all her spells. It was well stocked and contained everything the letter from Her Sam had said that they'd need.

The full moon would rise soon and Ruby knew they didn't have a lot of time left. She reached out, taking Sam's hand in hers. "We're going to be okay, Puppy. If it's not okay, I'll find you, or you'll find me. We always do."

The penthouse was quiet as Sam tried to study and Ruby made peppermint tea. She poured two cups, lacing one with honey and headache powder. She took the cups into the living room where Sam was studying on the couch and sat down next to him. His cup went onto the coffee table and hers onto the side table. She reached out to ruffle her hand through Sam's hair.

"Puppy, why don't you take a break." It's not a question or a suggestion, though her tone is soft. "How long have you had this headache?" she asks, concern in her expression. She knows it been a little while from his demeanor and body language.

It's a very average night at Ruby's house. She and Sam spend most weekends there watching movies or just hanging out. They're watching some sort of suspense movie with a supernatural twist. Ruby is snuggled up to Sam, her head on his shoulder. He says her name and she raises her head, looking up at him. Her eyes go wide and she barely has time to dip her head and move to the side a bit so Sam kisses her nose instead of her lips (and she wishes she didn't have to move away). "Sam, we--" she stops him, reaching up to place her fingers lightly against his lips. She takes a breath, gathering herself for this conversation (one that she had both hoped there would be a need for and also hoped there never would be) "Puppy, I wish we could." She moves her hand and turns her body more toward him, not putting any distance between him, cupping his face with both hands.

"You don't know how many times I've wished we could, but the only reason you're allowed over here at all is that I promised your mom I wouldn't do anything with you until you were eighteen." She smiles softly, sadly at him. "You're seventeen and while I may not look it, I'm several thousand years old. I know the age of consent is 16 here. Yes, I looked it up, but that's if I were 18 or younger. Even my driver's license says I'm 21." Her smile turns a bit devilish. "However, in 193 days, you'll be eighteen."

Yes, she keeps count. There's an app on her phone.

Ruby is nervous. She thought she was long past nerves, but it's Sam's senior prom and they're going together. She tells herself that she is not concerned with what the other people at his school think. She is lying. It's not so much that she's concerned for herself, but she is nervous that Sam will be bothered if anyone says anything negative about them. Because of that concern, she might have gone overboard with her dress. However, she thinks it's appropriate and Sam will like it. Sam's opinion is really the only one that matters.

Ruby had walked down the block to Sam's house, knowing that Melissa would want to take dozens of pictures before the limousine picked them up. Sam was still upstairs getting his tux on when she arrived. She stayed downstairs in the living room chit-chatting with Melissa and Theo. They admired her dress and she warned them that she had rented a hotel suite at the prom venue (a surprise for Sam) but promised she'd make sure Sam called them after the prom. It had only been a little awkward, which Ruby had expected. This was still new for Melissa and Theo as well. However, she hadn't wanted them to have the impression that Sam would be home after prom.

Ruby hates this, but she also knows it's the only way just like she knew Dean had to go to Hell before they could get him back. This is so much worse than losing Dean because she loves Sam. She also knows that she can help Sam survive Lucifer's cage until they can get him out, and that's her focus right now.

Bobby and Dean are discussing the incident with Death, which leaves Ruby and Sam some time alone in one of the spare bedrooms. She sits down, straddling his lap, hands on his shoulders. "Hey, Puppy. We've gotta talk." Her eyes are already filling with tears.
peaceonearth: (What)
The whole morning had felt a little off to Ruby. Dean yelling her name across the entire damn camp like there had been a murder only convinced her the day would get worse. She couldn't have been more wrong.

Dean had wanted to throw him in a cell and lock him up. Ruby had tried to convince him that this wasn't Lucifer. She was only mildly successful because another crisis needed Dean's attention. She hauled Sam to her room, locked the door, and searched his bag. She sniffed his clothes and rifled through his things. She put his gun in one of her drawers. She made tea to help the inevitable headache that he was going to wake up with and set it on the side table.

When Sam woke up, she put her knitting to one side and perched on the edge of the chair. "Hey, Puppy. Everyone but me thinks you're Lucifer. You're locked in here because of that, and I'll be happy to show you around, but I'm officially your bodyguard slash chaperone while you're here. Also, how the fuck are you here?"

Ruby had agreed to it because it was a good plan. If the Winchesters weren't going to take advantage of her past relationships and the stereotypes and assumptions surrounding her then she was a hypocrite when she accused the boys of not even trying. She hated every minute of the plan even before the torture. She'd agreed on Sam's promise that he wouldn't leave her there to rot.

While Alastair had put the gag on her to keep her from exiting her body (he'd underestimated how attached she was to this particular body), she'd been grateful for it because it had kept her from screaming like a little bitch. It hadn't kept her from crying. The knife cutting her had felt like it was shredding those little bits of her soul and humanity. It had been pain unlike anything even Ruby had experienced, but Sam had made good on his promise, She'd walked out of there wrapped in his coat, but she hadn't exactly done it on her own power. Sam had supported her weight more than her legs had. Once they'd gotten in the car and headed toward the motel, she'd given up caring about appearances. She let Sam carry her into the room. Thankfully he'd gotten them their own room because she couldn't have handled Dean's snide remarks right then.

"Did it work?" she finally asks. Her eyes went black hours ago and she can't even attempt to switch them back.
peaceonearth: (Say again)

Ruby didn't intend to go to Vegas, but Sam had asked her to stay close and she was taking that very seriously. When the boys go to Vegas, Ruby was just a few hours behind. She'd been in contact with Sam throughout the trip and when he says that Dean is insisting that they go to the strip club, Ruby decides it's as good a place as any to show up. She has to go shopping to procure a few items for the job and she has to use a knockout spell on one of the dancers so that there's a vacancy to fill, but Sam should be surprised when she shows up on the stage under the name 'Sally'. She doesn't dance to the song 'Mustang Sally' so much as walk around the stage and glare at the guys on perv row until they toss money on the stage.

When she walks off stage and starts to 'make her rounds', wearing the black bra, red feather boa, and black lace thong she stepped onto the stage in, Dean stops her.

"Hey, Darling. Dork Boy here was having a hard time keeping his tongue in his mouth while you were on stage," Dean says as he slips a folded hundred-dollar bill in the string of her underwear. "Why don't you spend a little time with him."
